When They Stood There For That Photo

When they stood there, for that photo
Before my father was even born then
Who is now but in a picture a face
Did those women and men
Wonder at the world to come
And ponder the coming times of change
Though they did not do this I think
For their own times were as strange
To have their day and to have it good
I think they were content
As they stood to have their picture taken
By a future war hero and candidate for President!

The verse above was written around 2007 or so, and centres on the photo below that was taken of our family at Aughagreagh by Sean Mac Eoin when he was the plainer sounding John Joseph McKeon. Known to us as the “Tipper McKeon” he is known to history as the “Blacksmith of Ballinalee”
