Consequences of a Drunken Cupid
“I love you , I hate you at the same time” he said
As she sobbing, begged him to stay
Two drunken lovers fighting in the street
As past them I went on my way.
And a smashing sound of a glass been thrown
Smashed to smithereens on the pavement
Echoed to my whistling as I
Walked home in the small hours content.
Lovers quarrels: if th [...]
Goodnight
Goodnight he spoke friendly
As he always done
No remarks was passed on him
As his friends went on
And only when at their own door
Their key in it they were turning slow
Did they realise who and what was said
And ashen their faces did go
Yes a simple goodnight by their friend
Was all to them was said…
This friend who they all knew well…
Was fr [...]

The Headless Horseman Rides At Night
The headless horseman rides at night
The story the locals tell
From Charleville walls is seen the sight
Of the spectre from hell
And by the barracks wall he gallops fast
The story it is said
Long by the canal and Bond store at last
The Horseman his way he made.
And over the bridge in the nights dark
To the Cemetery it makes its way
And only a [...]
We Are But Passing Through
History, crumbles, before our eyes
And walking past, we wonder not
Someday, for all that we are
We too, like those who here lived, will be forgot…
These walls, they are but stone walls
And as the Lord upon his throne
Who once ruled here, he died
So shall we, being but skin and bone
And the stone buildings great we build
So that known lo [...]

Voices Neath My Bedroom Window
When I was young, neath my window
In the small hours of the morning new
With only the streetlight showing through the panes
And my cares in life were few
The voices of the drunks who were passing
Echoed of France and Germany
As they staggered talking, arguing and cursing
Unknowing of the listener above… me…
Now I am older, but yet [...]
Streetscene at Night In Tullamore
Church Street in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at nightPhoto (c) Tomás Ó Cárthaigh 2010
Stumbling drunk upon a street
Rowing in their stupified state
A lady in a short skirt staggers
With her man whos in a worse state
At the corner they stop, him puking
And still she nags on and starts to shout
As others walk by the patient
That no-one gives [...]
A Drunkard in Tullamore
He stood in the middle of the street
Shouting and swearing and drinking
The cars honked at him as they drove past
Swerving and about him thinking
That he was a nuisance and useless
And that was all he would ever be
What he was they did not know
What he was they could not see…
This man he had seen the world
Had sailed the seas low and hi [...]
The Old Bond Store Ghost
Washing the dirty glasses, all the customers were gone
Finishing up for the night – no, there is still one
Elderly gentleman, who at the counter he sit
No Gardai checking after hours, we’ll let him stay a bit.
No harm he’s doing , the barman employs
Himself to cleaning and tidying, as the old man enjoys
The fruits of a lifes hardship, a last [...]
