Political protester student drew straws, and got the short one. Burned himself to death in protest at Warsaw Pact occupation of Prague. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Palach
Inappropriate, the guide girl said
Is the offering in memory made
Of one man who was not afraid
To show his dissent
He and freinds for freedoms cause
Went to protest, a [...]

Does Kafkas Ghost Today Roam Josefovs...
Burn them all, the words that I have written
When this, my life, it has come to an end
An earnest request made by Frank Kafka
Solemnly to his good friend.
That man, to spite his genius to him unknown
Thought his written words, his stories, not good
His life’s writing seemed to him but a waste
Be burned on death his writings should.
It s [...]
Lines on Kafka
How come, in a town like this
A man in spirit is so in error
That instead of sweet relaxing dreams
Suffer ones of such terror?
But this town was not always so good
And joy one could not always find
Being of a minority, oppressed and repressed
Does not give foundation for a healthy mind.

Adolf Hitler is Coming to Town
“Hurry up” they said, “its a problem”
“Tear Mendelssons statue down
For he is a Jew and it will not do
Adolf Hitler is coming to town.
So a soldier was send orders given
And to the roof he went to find
But no statue had a name and they looked much the same
And Mendelsons face he could not bring to mind.
Our soldi [...]
I Walked the Streets of Prague
I walked the streets of Prague
In glorious sunshine, time to pass
I intended to, but never got round
To visiting a church, attending mass
But every step that I took
As I toured the city there
To see the glory created by God
Was in its own way a better prayer.
It is hard to believe that tanks rolled
These streets, a people to crush
A people wh [...]
That We May Never Have to Play Dalibo...
During Vladislav II’s reign knight Ploskovský behaved toward his people in serfdom in a such a cruel way, that peasants did revolt capturing him and forced him to free them from the serfdom.
The peasants asked for serfdom from Dalibor from Kozojed, who behaved in a more humane way.
The nobles, scared of the trend spreading invited Dalib [...]
God Being Stupid Needs Our Help
A Jew in the Pinkas synagogue tells a story that the Star of David is not a Jewish one at all but invented by Christians to carve into headstones so that God would know to save only those with crosses on their headstones.
A story to other visitors told
That the Star of David is not really a symbol of the Jews
Captured by attention on the spot [...]
Merchants at the Pinkas Synagogue
They sell their wares on open stands
Trinkets, postcards, and stuff
They are everywhere that I can see
The senses it does rebuff
This place is sacred is it not?
Where the story is told
Of mans inhumanity to man
Not a venue to trade for gold?
I feel I think like Jesus did
Of those merchants which I passed
And wished I could do as He
And from t [...]
Sailing Neath the Charles Bridge
Such history flows beneath this bridge
And all that have walked on it
So many pass its statues walk
And think so little of it.
Germans, Russians and the Slav
Have at times been masters here
And yet none was ever master
So from history it does appear
An Irishman beneath it sails
As slowly the Vlatava flows
And everyone goes about their lives
