Tá Siad ag Damhsa Anocht

Tá siad ag damhsa anocht, na cailíní áileann,
Níos faide ná smaointeoireacht , is ard ‘gus mór atá an ceol,
Tá siad amuigh ar na sléibhte,
Vodka ag an buidéal á ól.

Ólann siad cider freisin,
Agus taibléidí a chaitheann siad síos,
Tá siad ag damhsa go fíán,
Cuid acu ach seacht mbliana déag d’aois.

Nuair a fhéachann De Bhaldraithe síos orthu,
Tá áthas air anocht,
Tá said ag damhsa ag an gcrosbóthar,
Mar i mbrionglóidí an fear bocht.

This poem in English ::: An Dan seo as Bearla

Eamon de Valera actually never said the phrase "comely maidens dancing at the crossroads" though this phrase attributed to him in the St Patricks Day speech is by now iconic. They are dancing allright... but not in the way he could ever have thought!
