No Library Like the Spoken Word

Books and knowledge gathered together
But arrived Invaders and a tyrants yoke
All then to then was ever known
It all went up in smoke.

Theories, expressions of a time
Offended a powerful few
They too offered Sparks of knowledge to the air
As pyres are known to do…

Collections amassed of an interest
Library of a lifetime amassed
Of no worth, yet worth more than price
The flame sent them to the past.

The spoken word, though wandering with the years
Survives fate, despots and tyrants yoke
Through languages as they evolve over generations
When libraries go up in smoke.

Have your say...
