New Year, New Start, All Folks the Same

Irish and Islamic peoples have a lot more in common than we realise, faiths and cultures to be shared when the refugees do arrive... Taroudant in Morocco at night

New year, new start, all folks the same
No matter what land or tradition from which they came
So close to Samhain, our own time of New Year
They have Muharram, time of celebration and cheer…

Its sad that societies of faiths fight and killEvery Heart Is My Temple
Divisions fostered and festered by folk of false will
Who know dogma and holy books and how to preach
But little of Muhammad or Jesus or the message they teach.

The beads we say our Rosary on, the Angelus call to prayer
We Irish got from the Islamics when on the Crusades out there
Let us as the refugees arrive, hold a welcoming hand
A new year, a new approach to life in this, our now common land.

Have your say...
