King Harmon’s Clock

Times that are good make not a man,
Though through them his name be known…
Times or trial will test if he is true,
Even if carved in stone.
With grateful thanks from a then placid tenantry
Such claims fate would deny –
Known now for evictions –  will be for all time
Cursed by all passers by

Background – Laurence King-Harmon had a number of structures built in his honour, paid for it is said by subscription of a grateful tenantry. Self praise is no praise, and whether subscription was under duress or genuine is unknown. Bad times were ahead, and for the cruelty of his estates eviction is how his name will be known, no matter whats carved in stone…
