Fr. Mathew statue in Cork City

From a greatful public erected
A statue in Fr. Mathew's name
Stands in the street in Cork that I passed
Yet todays problems are the same
While walking to the bus station I saw
- and she was not to be the last -
A drunken woman picked off the street by the guardai
As on the opposite pavement I passed.

It seems as if Cork City
So many are still oost to drink... I ask why
And then to myself under my breath say
"There but for the Grace of God go I."
